Day 8 - Morning -
Avignon
Avignon is another completely walled city but much larger than
Carcosonne.  It was also the home to 8 Popes in the 13th
Century.  If I had listened to the audioguide I probably know why
the Popes moved here for a while.
This is the
Papel
Palace.

This is one of the
huge walls that
are in the Papel
Palace.  It
seemed more
like a fortress
than a palace.
This looking
up from one
of the
courtyards.
Another
one of the
huge walls.
My sweetie
peeking out.
Another
Gargoyle.
Me peeking out.
My Sweetie
up on a
walkway near
the top of the
Papel
Palace.   Yes,
we went as
high up as we
could go.
That was a
trend of the
trip.
Here is the
gold statue.  I
should know
who it is but I
don't.
Another view of
the front of the
Papal Palace.
The
Statuary in
front of the
Palace.
The view of the castle across the
river as seen from the Papal Palace.
The Avignon Bridge as we were walking on the wall
that goes around the city.  Some of the wall can also
be seen on the left.
Me as we are
walking on
the wall that
goes around
the city.
My Sweetie as
we are nearing
the Avignon
Bridge.
The Chapel on
the Avignon
Bridge.  Yes,
there is a
chapel on the
bridge.
After our tour
and walk we
stopped for a
crepe.  Here is
the lady
making them.
Yummy!!
This is our
hotel in
Avignon.  We
had just a
little bit of
trouble
finding it.
